RENO, Nev. (KOLO) - On a hot afternoon The Traner pool is a place to cool off. It was a popular spot Friday afternoon.
"As temperatures heat up, everyone is coming out to enjoy the cool pool," said Kathy Kelly-Ballinger, Recreation Supervisor.
For13-year-old Anthony Wright, it's a place where he can leave his wheelchair behind.
"I get to exercise my body here; being born with muscular dystrophy this is really good for me," he said. "I paddle, sometimes I kick my feet. It's mostly upper body but it definitely helps. It actually feels good, I'm excited about it."
The Traner Pool offers open swim hours from 1-4PM daily through August 7, 2016. The cost is $4 for adults, $2.50 for youth and $2 for children and seniors. Two free-admission twilight swims have been added to encourage the community to take advantage of the amenities. The next twilight swim at Traner pool is set for July 22 from 6-8PM.
The Idlewild and Northwest pools have lap swim and swim lessons available. All three pools have lifeguards on duty at all times and the water quality is monitored.
"The water inour pools is safe; we test every three hours and all of our chemicals are added by auto pump so everything here is safe and sound," Kelly-Ballinger said. "We work really hard to provide a safe environment."
