RENO, Nev. (KOLO) - The Reno City Council voted 6-1 Wednesday to approve a development near Cold Springs that will add 5,000 homes in the next 20 years.

The 1,738-acre StoneGate development now goes to the Truckee Meadows Regional Planning Agency for review.

The city notes StoneGate is a master planned community that incorporates a mix of uses and densities and includes homes, schools, open space, parks, an extensive trail corridor network and retail and industrial uses

The huge development leapfrogs other developable space and puts a new development 15 miles north of Reno.

Developers Wednesday said they would make sure solutions for traffic congestion on U.S. 395 are in place with the Nevada Department of Transportation before building.
