SAN FRANCISCO, Calif. (KOLO) -- The Reno doctor accused of running an illegal drug ring out of his family practice has waived a detention hearing, and will now be transported to Reno by the US Marshals Service for all future hearings. When he arrives in Reno, the USMS will notify the court and the court will set a date for the next hearing. Information about when he will be brought to Reno has not been released.

Dr. Robert Rand waived the hearing at an appearance in federal court in San Francisco May 6, 2016.

Rand is accused of writing pain medication prescriptions for people who did not need them. Those people are then accused of distributing the medications to members of the public.

Rand has been in custody since his arrest Friday, April 29, 2016 by federal authorities for his role in the Oxycodone drug ring allegedly led by Richie West, general manager of Jones West Ford in Reno. West and his co-workers are accused of selling the drugs prescribed by Rand.
