RENO, Nev. (KOLO) - The Washoe County School District is in the process of establishing the school calendar for 2019-2020, and is seeking input from students, families, and the community. The calendar determines when classes begin for the school year, when breaks are held, and when classes are dismissed for the year.
“This input is critically important to our District because it impacts so many people in our community—not just our students and their families, but our 8,000-plus teachers and staff members, as well as business owners who depend on summer revenues and student workers,” said WCSD Board President Katy Simon Holland. “Our Board of Trustees will consider the results of this community survey when we discuss the calendar issue at our public meeting on Tuesday, June 26, and we want to consider everyone’s input as we make this important decision.”
The District previously surveyed the community and conducted public meetings in 2011, and the current calendar was adopted by the Board of Trustees in 2012.
An online survey has been posted; it will close at midnight Tuesday, May 29.
