RENO, Nev. (KOLO) - Two people arrested in Florida for the murder of a man in north Reno are now in the Washoe County jail.

January 1, 2018, officers received a call to do a welfare check on Clear Acre Lane on 48-year-old John Lovely, Jr., a Reno resident who had moved here from Florida.

Police say Lovely had not contacted his relatives as planned. Officers found Lovely dead in his apartment and have not released the cause of death, but say he was murdered.

As a result of the investigation, detectives traveled to Jacksonville, Florida and served arrest warrants on two people. With the assistance of the Jacksonville Sheriff’s Office in Duval County, detectives found, interviewed, and arrested the victim’s long-time girlfriend, 43-year-old Jennifer Baldwin, as well as 62-year-old Herman Matasar, with whom she is also having a romantic relationship.

Both were booked into the Washoe County jail February 7 for open murder.

In addition to the two arrest warrants, search warrants were executed in the Jacksonville area and additional items of evidence were recovered.

Police say Baldwin and the victim relocated to Reno in 2016 from Jacksonville and lived together at the victim's address until she returned to Florida in late 2017.

Detectives say Baldwin and Matasar had conspired to murder Lovely Jr for some time before actually carrying out the plan, and took several elaborate steps to try to cover up their involvement in the murder.

Police say the investigation is ongoing with a potential for more charges being filed.
