The call to dispatch for the accident came about 6 p.m. December 1, 2017. First responders tried life-saving efforts but 58-year-old Leeroy Jay Lutz of Reno was declared dead at the scene.

Lutz was pushing a shopping cart across McCarran Boulevard from the west shoulder when he was hit, NHP says. The vehicles were going south. Both drivers cooperated with police, and alcohol and other drugs were not factors with the drivers, police say. Speed also was not a factor.

Southbound McCarran Boulevard was closed until after 9 p.m. as police investigated the crash.
