Man hit and killed by train in west Reno

RENO, Nev. (KOLO) - Reno Police and Union Pacific say a man was killed Tuesday afternoon when he was hit by a train.

About 2PM January 30, 2018, a Union Pacific train headed west hit the pedestrian along the Roseville Subdivision near 4th Street and Summit Ridge Drive in west Reno.

No other injuries were reported and the incident is under investigation.

Union Pacific issued the following statement:

"Our hearts go out to friends and family of the deceased.

"The safety message here is that pedestrians, and everyone, need to be very aware of the hazards associated with trains and should never be on the train tracks or attempt to cross anywhere other than a designated crossing when signs and signals permit.

"Our locomotive engineer and conductor were immediately put in touch with peer counselors who are also locomotive engineers and conductors as part of our "Peer Support" program."
