TRUCKEE, Calif. (KOLO) -- A 35-year-old ski instructor has died after a skiing accident Sunday at Northstar California Resort.

According to Sgt. Dave Hunt with the Placer County Sheriff's Office, ski instructor Dennis Baltimore was pronounced dead on scene. Resort officials say Baltimore was from Kings Beach.

Baltimore was going down Village Run around noon December 11, 2016 when the accident occurred. A snowboarder in the area hit a patch of ice and lost control. In an effort to avoid crashing into the snowboarder, Baltimore skied off trail through the trees where he hit a few rocks and came to a stop in a creek.

The snowboarder involved in the accident stopped and called 911.

Both the Northstar Ski Patrol and the Northstar Fire Department responded to the accident, but were unable to revive Baltimore. CareFlight was called to the scene, but was canceled before arrival. Baltimore was eventually pronounced dead on scene by the Northstar Fire Department.

“Northstar California Resort, Northstar Ski Patrol and the entire Vail Resorts family extend our deepest sympathy and support to our employee’s family and friends; we are all devastated by the loss of this member of our team,” Nadia Guerriero, Northstar California Resort’s vice president and general manager said in a news release.
