RENO, Nev. (KOLO) -- The Panasonic Gigafactory hiring event attracted all type of applicants. One of them is Chris McLeod. He already has a job, but it's the ability to evolve that has attracted him to Panasonic.
"I was looking for a new opportunity to basically grow," said McLeod.
Many others took on that same opportunity. Both this and next week, Panasonic is holding a hiring event at Truckee Meadows Community College's Edison campus.
Open positions include production operators, shift leads, material handlers and maintenance technicians.
"We have been around for just about two and a half years now. This time last year our employee numbers were in the double digits; now it's in the four digits," said Brent Wyatt, Panasonic Recruiter.
The company hopes to have hired a total of 1,300 people by August 2017 and another 600 by March 2018.
"We are still operating in crazy start-up mode. People that can really thrive in that environment or are really interested in building this project and expanding our vision for us, those are the people we are really looking forward to," said Wyatt.
Panasonic recruiters average more than 100 interviews a day. They are hoping to hire 300 people in the next two weeks.
"For exceptional individuals, we are making offers on the spot," said Wyatt.
McLeod is one of the lucky ones. He was hired for one of the positions on the spot. Now with that checked off, he's setting his eyes on something else.
"Seeing the new facility. I want to see what a newer warehouse looks like," said McLeod.
The hiring event is open Monday to Friday from 9 am to 4 pm. Recruiters suggest you apply online and bring several copies of your resume. To view the Panasonic job web page, click here.
