RENO, Nev. (KOLO) - Nevada Flood Awareness Week begins Sunday and continues through Friday.

There are a series of events to educate the public, including at Meadowood Mall on Sunday through 2 p.m.

“Our goal is to create flood resilient communities in Nevada that encourage protection of life, property, water quality, environmental values and the preservation of natural floodplain functions,” says Bunny Bishop, Nevada’s floodplain manager. “In northern Nevada, our biggest floods occur during the winter. Knowing what to do before, during and after a flood can save lives, protect pets and help minimize property damage.”

The Nevada Flood Awareness Committee scheduled these other events this week:
Gardnerville: Tuesday 3 p.m. to 6 p.m. at the Community Center
Yerington: Wednesday 2:30 p.m. – 5:30 p.m., at Scolari’s
Elko: Friday , 2:30 p.m. – 5:30 p.m., at Walmart.
