New NDOT closures will affect I-80 in Sparks

SPARKS, Nev. (KOLO) - Overnight lane closures will take place on Interstate 80 near Sparks Boulevard this coming week as the Nevada Department of Transportation completes installation of roadway sensors to gather data on road usage.

Single-lane closures will take place on both directions of I-80 between McCarran and Sparks boulevards Sunday, Aug. 27 through Friday, Sept. 1 between approximately 8 p.m. and 5 a.m. The Sparks Boulevard onramp to westbound I-80 will be closed during the same time frames. Minor travel delays should be anticipated.

Drivers are reminded to travel safely and follow reduced speed limits through the work zone. Similar lane closures took place earlier this summer for the first paving phase of construction.

The approximately $600,000 project by Titan Electric will embed weigh-in-motion sensors into the interstate to automatically gather anonymous data on vehicle types and weights. NDOT utilizes the data to construct appropriate, long-lasting pavements for the average type and weight of vehicles on the road.

Overnight lane closures are taking place on Interstate 80 near Sparks Boulevard this week as the Nevada Department of Transportation installs roadway sensors to gather data on road usage.

Single-lane closures will take place on both directions of I-80 between McCarran and Sparks boulevards through Friday, August 4. One lane will be closed on westbound I-80 between 6:30 p.m. and 5 a.m., while a single-lane closure will take place eastbound from 9 p.m. to 5 a.m.

NDOT says minor travel delays should be anticipated. Drivers are reminded to travel safely and follow reduced speed limits through the work zone. Similar lane closures will take place this fall for a second phase of construction.

The approximately $600,000 project by Titan Electric will embed weigh-in-motion sensors into the interstate to automatically gather anonymous data on vehicle types and weights. NDOT says it utilizes the data to construct appropriate, long-lasting pavements for the average type and weight of vehicles on the road.
