ALPINE COUNTY, Calif. (KOLO) - The Alpine County Sheriff's Office says the deaths of two people Sunday at Kirkwood Ski Resort were accidents.

Investigators say about 6:40PM March 4, 2018, they responded to a report of two missing people, 50-year-old Olga Perkovic and her 7-year-old son, Aaron Goodstein. They had been vacationing in a condominium.

About 9PM, a person staying in a neighboring condo saw ski gloves in the snow near the condo, and doing some digging, realized the victims were buried under the snow. Rescue crews found them unconscious about three feet under the snow. They were flown to hospitals, where both were pronounced dead.

Deputies determined the victims had decided to return to their condo from their ski area by skiing through a wooded area into the condo complex. They skied under a roof covered with snow, and the snow slid from the roof, burying them.

Perkovic was on vacation with her two other children and her mother.

Responders included Alpine County Search and Rescue, Eastern Alpine Fire, Kirkwood Fire. Kirkwood Ski Patrol and Kirkwood Security.
