RENO, Nev. (KOLO) - There will be lane closures Monday from 5:30 a.m. to 8 a.m. on Interstate 80 at the California border as the Nevada Department of
Transportation installs bases for a new welcome sign.
Both eastbound and westbound lanes will be closed.
There will be other closures in coming weeks as the new sign face is installed.
Existing welcome signs, designed and installed about 25 years ago, are being replaced by signs designed by Nevada high school students.
The first new sign was installed on Nevada 88 south of Minden this spring. About 25 other border locations will get new welcome signs in the coming months. Some border locations, like Nevada 28 in Crystal Bay and U.S. 395 near Bordertown, will get gateway monuments.
