Hiker dies after falling off cliff, two rescued

BIG CHIEF, Calif. (KOLO) - A hiker has died after falling about 100 feet off a cliff in Big Chief, originally reported as Granite Chief, northwest of Lake Tahoe. Two other hikers have been rescued.

Deputies from the Placer County Sheriff's Office say three hikers were stranded in the area late Wednesday, February 7, 2018.

The Placer County Sheriff's Search and Rescue and the Tahoe Nordic team responded to the call.

The fallen hiker was from Truckee.

It is unclear how long the hikers were stranded.
