RENO, Nev. (KOLO) May 2018 would have marked the five-year anniversary for local Midtown store Happy Happy Joy Joy. However, following the passing of her husband, owner Heather Lee Dixon says she is saying goodbye to her business.
"All of this has been incredible difficult," Dixon says. "It's not a fun decision to have to make, to close, and the circumstances are certainly even worse."
Her husband, Kenny Dixon, died after a motorcycle accident in January 2018.
"Since his passing, I just don't have the wherewhithal to continue running the store," Dixon says.
Friend and customer Alex Bradley says he will miss the store but understands why now is the time to close its doors.
"Losing someone that close to you is difficult," Bradley says. "It's a bummer, but you know, Heather needs to be good for her."
In addition to support from family and friends, local business owners have jumped in during her time of need, like neighboring owner of Sippee's Terri Hull.
"You know without even thinking, why wouldn't I give back and help her?" Hull says. "That's just what you do."
The community response has been so great that Dixon is closing doors a week early but says anyone interested in furniture or other fixtures can contact her at: firstname.lastname@example.org
"It's sad to be closing," Dixon says. "But great to have all of the support from the community."
