Shopping ramps up before Thanksgiving holiday

RENO, Nev. (KOLO) - Thanksgiving is only a few days away and grocery stores are noticing an increase in shoppers.

KOLO 8 News Now spoke with two grocery store managers at The Grocery Outlet in Sparks and Smart and Final in Reno, to see if they have been busier this upcoming holiday.

"Customers are definitely doing their holiday shopping," said Grocery Outlet owner Dean Biggs.

Biggs said Thanksgiving is the biggest time for them to sell turkeys.

"We have got an assortment," said Biggs "We are running low in the frozen ones but we got some more coming in."

The manager of Smart and Final in Reno said the busiest time to shop is after 3 p.m. and that the best time to come is in the morning or later at night.

Smart and Final shopper Edward Hughes is glad to be shopping before the rush.

"It feels great to actually be able to move in and out of the aisles," said Hughes.

Some shoppers do not have to shop for the upcoming holiday.

"We are going away for Thanksgiving this year so I am not really cooking this year," said Grocery Outlet shopper Julie Matter.

Smart and Final says the busiest day to shop for Thanksgiving is the day before. They are also open on Thanksgiving from 6:00 a.m. to 5 p.m.
