CARSON CITY, Nev. (KOLO) - A former Washoe County District Attorney’s Office prosecutor and Sierra Pacific Power Co. assistant general counsel has been appointed to Washoe District Court to replace the retired Judge Janet Berry.

Gov. Brian Sandoval announced the appointment of Kathleen Drakulich on Friday.

“Kathleen Drakulich has been involved in some of the most complicated and dynamic energy and natural resource issues in the past few decades,” Sandoval said in a statement. “She spent nearly five years of her career working as a Washoe County prosecutor and has broad private practice experience. She is a seasoned, thoughtful and tough litigator with a deep understanding of the legal process. I am confident that she will be a strong member of the judiciary and I am pleased to make this appointment.”

Drakulich is currently a partner at McDonald Carano where she focused on energy, environment and natural resource issues, the governor’s office noted. She received her bachelor’s degree from Cal Berkley and her law degree from the McGeorge School of Law.
