RENO, Nev. (KOLO) Flu season has hit Washoe County hard with double the number of reported flu cases at this time last year. With continued reports of hospitalization and flu-related deaths, getting a flu vaccine is critical to protecting the health of all Nevadans, according to Immunize Nevada.
Immunize Nevada and the Washoe County Health District are hosting a free flu vaccine clinic for children and their families at Shoppers Square (370 Casazza Drive) Tuesday, January 23 from 3:00 to 6:00 p.m. Anyone over six months of age is invited to receive a flu vaccine.
“There is definitely a need in our community. The flu is widespread across 49 states," said America Davis of Immunize Nevada. "We also know its hard for parents to get in to see their child’s health care provider, so we thought we would help the people who need it the most – children – get the access they need to stay healthy.”
Vaccines will be made available on a first-come-first-serve basis while supplies last. If you have health insurance, Medicaid, Medicare, or Nevada Checkup, please have your insurance card with you. If available, please also have the child’s immunization record. A limited number of flu vaccines will also be available to parents and other caretakers as well.
