RENO, Nev. (KOLO) - Hunger is still a problem in our communities. An average of one in seven residents in Northern Nevada is “food-insecure,” which means he/she doesn’t know where his or her next meal will come from. The statistic is far worse for children: one in four.
To help boost donations to local food banks during the holiday season, Save Mart and FoodMaxx stores are once again holding the annual "Holiday Give. Share. CARE!" Drive, making it easier for shoppers to donate. At checkout, customers can tear off a coupon and hand it to the cashier.
• $2 feeds one person breakfast
• $3 feeds one person lunch
• $5 feeds one person dinner
The coupons shoppers choose will be added to their grocery bills, and the tax-deductible contributions will be noted on their receipts. 100% of all donations go to the local food bank assigned to each store. In Northern Nevada, that means Food Bank of Northern Nevada and Ron Wood Family Resource Center.
Last year, the Holiday Giving campaign brought in more than $326,000 for about 30 food banks throughout California and Northern Nevada. Donations at checkout end December 26.
Donors are urged to share their giving spirit on social media by using the hashtags: #SaveMartGiving and #FoodMaxxGiving.
