Fly fishing club hosts veterans at Montreux

RENO, Nev. (KOLO) The Montreux fly fishing club hosted a group of veterans Thursday for a day of fly fishing at the pond at the 18th hole.

"The main part is they get out and get to fish in our pond, which the club allows us to use," said Roger Mikulecky.

Experts from Orvis supplied the gear and lent their expertise. Montreax supplied the fish. The pond is stocked with rainbow trout.

"We're fortunate to have a great community that wants to get involved and help others and give back to the community," said Jackie Latragna of Montreux Golf & Country Club. "We have a lot of veterans in Montreux, so this is close to everyone's heart."

The club partnered with the Reno Vet Center for this opportunity.

"We provide counseling for veterans who have been in combat theater and also for their family members," said Perfecto Manuta.

The club hopes to host more events like this one.

"We want to make this an annual event and we want people to realize that whatever they can do to help our warriors is a great thing," Mikulecky said.
