RENO, Nev. (KOLO) - Fire crews knocked down a 5-acre brush fire along Red Rock Road near U.S. 395 early Sunday afternoon.

Red Rock Road was closed during the firefight, but is now open.

Fire crews responded to the brush fire at about 12:45 p.m. November 26, 2017. Three homes were threatened and high winds spread spot fires, firefighters said.

Truckee Meadows Fire Protection District Chief Charles Moore said a TMFPD engine crew spotted the fire not long after it started and that helped keep flamers from spreading, even though wind gusts reached 70 mph.

The cause has not been determined.

U.S. 395 was also closed Sunday northbound at Stead and southbound at Red Rock Road due to multiple vehicles being rolled over.
