Fire at Reno home contained to one room; cat dies

RENO, Nev. (KOLO) - A fire caused heavy smoke damage to a home east of midtown Reno and killed a cat, the Reno Fire Department reported.

The fire was reported just after 5:15 p.m. February 21, 2018 in the area of Thoma Street and Bates Avenue.

The Reno Fire Department contained the fire to a back bedroom, but the house sustained heavy smoke damage and is unlivable, the fire department said. They arrived to find a resident holding a dog. The resident sustained moderate smoke inhalation and was taken to a hospital.

The cause of the fire is not known.
