The crash just before 8PM February 22, 2018 was related to icy roads.

A busy day for NHP started about 2PM, when troopers responded to Interstate 80 eastbound near mile marker 25, about four miles east of Sparks. The crash was initially reported to involve four vehicles and a tractor/trailer. Upon arrival, troopers determined there were 19 vehicles involved, including several tractor/trailers, blocking both eastbound travel lanes. Preliminary investigation indicates eight people involved in the crashes were taken to hospitals.

Nevada Department of Transportation routed traffic to the off-ramps at the Lockwood and Mustang exits to westbound Interstate 80. Eastbound Interstate 80 was closed until about 5:45PM.

About 4PM, troopers responded to reports of multiple vehicles involved in crashes on Interstate 580 northbound at the Galena Creek Bridge. The chain reaction crash began when a sedan lost control on the snow and ice-covered roadway. Preliminary investigation indicates 34 vehicles were involved in the crash, including two Nevada Highway Patrol vehicles. The crash blocked all northbound lanes of Interstate 580 until about 7:30PM.

Northbound traffic was routed to US-395 Alternate during the crash cleanup. Troopers handled 17 crashes at the scene. Per REMSA, 4 people involved were transported to hospitals.

Yet another crash had both directions of 395 Alternate shut down at the south end of Washoe Valley at Eastlake Boulevard. A jackknifed big rig led to that closure.
