RENO, Nev. (KOLO) - The Nevada Highway Patrol says a medical condition may have led a man to crash into a pole Monday.

Shortly after 3PM September 18, 2017 troopers responded to the crash on South Virginia Street near South Hills Drive.

The preliminary investigation indicates 75-year-old Edward Hess of Reno was headed south on South Virginia Street when he veered to the left, and crossed the center turn lane and the two northbound lanes. He went off the road and through a barbed wire fence, and hit the post of a billboard sign on the east side of South Virginia Street.

Hess was pronounced dead on scene. The cause of his death has not been determined, but troopers say a medical-related issue may have led to the crash.

If you saw the crash or have any information about it, you're asked to contact Trooper Doug Hildebrand of the Nevada Highway Patrol Multi-Disciplinary Investigation and Reconstruction Team (M.I.R.T.) at 775-687-9617 or dhildebrand@dps.state.nv.us regarding case #170901750.
