Downtown motel demolished

RENO, Nev. (KOLO) The iconic Stardust Lodge in downtown Reno is no more. Jacobs Entertainment led the demolition of the motel November 16 as part of the Fountain District project. The $500 million project is for the revitalization of the downtown area.

"It's clearing the way for something bigger, better and more vibrant," Neoma Jardon, city councilwoman, said.

Jacobs Entertainment began its process in 2016 with the Carriage.

"Being able to have a lot of property between Gold Dust West and the Sands Regency gives us a lot of opportunity for us to develop," Jonathan Boulware, Regional Vice President of Jacobs Entertainment, said.

Jardon said the council is looking at the entire downtown region as a whole.

"The council made its priority the revitalization of downtown because the community identified it as a priority," Jardon said.

Plans have not yet been finalized for what will replace the Stardust, but Boulware said in the meantime they will continue to work to provide high-quality, affordable housing.

"We're going to continue to do that," Boulware said. "That's not going to end."

The company will announce its official plans for the property in early 2018.
