STATELINE, Nev. (KOLO)-- South Lake Tahoe Police have released the name of a 21-year-old California man found dead in Lake Tahoe.

Ramneek Singh Bains of Yuba City was reporting missing after jumping from a boat August 4, 2018 near the south end of Lake Tahoe. The Douglas County Sheriff's Office says he was found a quarter mile off shore between Tahoe Meadows and Lakeside Marina the next day.

Police say he was not wearing a flotation device and there is no evidence alcohol played any part in his drowning. He was seen going under after taking a few strokes in the water, which is cold enough in Lake Tahoe to be a factor in drowning by leading to shock.

DCSO received help from the South Lake Tahoe Police Department and the El Dorado and Washoe County sheriff’s offices, as well as the U.S. Coast Guard and a California Highway Patrol helicopter. Specialized police dogs also helped look for the swimmer.
