SPARKS, Nev. (KOLO) - Fire crews have stopped progress of a brush fire off the southeast corner of Pyramid Highway and Disc Drive in Sparks, in the hills that are part of Wedekind Regional Park.
At 8:45 p.m. it was reported fully contained.
The fire was behind businesses and near homes, but no evacuations were called for. Sparks Fire Division Chief Jim Reid says the wind shifted at just the right time to blow the fire back into itself and prevent more damage.
The fire was reported about 1:30PM July 11, 2018. Sparks Fire says it grew to about 30 acres. Reid and the Bureau of Land Management say no cause has been determined, but Reid says the fire started near a road leading to power lines and a power substation.
About six thousand NV Energy customers were without power in the area, but power has been restored, according to the outage map here
The fire, on Bureau of Land Management land, was fought by crews from Sparks, Reno, Truckee Meadows and BLM.
