FALLON, Nev. (KOLO) - Churchill County Sheriff Ben Trotter will not run for re-election in 2018, saying instead he will run for Justice of the Peace.
He released this statement December 20, 2017:
"I, Churchill County Sheriff Ben Trotter, will not seek a 3rd term as Sheriff. I am truly thankful and humbled to have had the opportunity to serve as your Sheriff for eight years. I believe we have moved your Sheriff's Office forward and set a very positive foundation for the future of this 153-year-old agency. We have some young, motivated and quality staff that bode well for the future service your Sheriff's Office will provide. We have accomplished many very important things over my two terms including, most recently, the new Churchill County Law Enforcement Center. Most importantly we have been responsive to many issues in our community that were long-overlooked. I sincerely hope and pray that whomever we elect to fill this honorable position has a servant's heart, an open mind to positive change, an inability to hold grudges and a healthy dose of humility.
"I want to thank the Churchill County and Fallon communities for the true privilege is has been to serve you in this capacity. This decision has come after long, reflection and consideration and after much discussion with my family. It was a difficult decision to make. I want to thank the people at the Sheriff's Office who worked with me these years. I want you to know I will continue to serve you exactly as I have since 2011 until the end of my tenure and I will gladly work with the next Sheriff to ensure a seamless transition.
"I filed for Sheriff in 2010 because I believed there were many ways to improve the working environment for the people serving us all at the Sheriff's Office and many ways to improve this service to our community. I will be filing for Justice of the Peace in January 2018 for similar reasons and look forward to the chance to do as I have worked so hard to do as your Sheriff - seek out ways to make things work better and implement the necessary changes to make it happen. I look forward to continuing to serve you in this capacity should you place your trust in me."
