RENO, Nev (KOLO) Open enrollment to sign up for health insurance begins November 1, 2017. But this year you only have 45 days to enroll instead of 90. Enrollment ends December 15, 2017.
Nevada’s Silver State Health Insurance Exchange wants everyone to know about that change and many others.
The agency held a kickoff party at the Atlantis to inform brokers, providers and others about the many changes, so they can help consumers be more informed and sign up for insurance by the deadline.
Besides a shorter time frame, insurance carriers have changes since last year.
Your doctors or clinic may not be covered under those new carriers.
The exchange is encouraging residents to get a broker or other expert to help navigate this sometimes complicated system.
Your broker will use healthcare.gov, and if you sign up by yourself you will too.
As if to add insult to injury that site will be closed for maintenance every Sunday from 9PM to Monday 9AM during the enrollment period.
“We found out last week that healthcare.gov is going to have some pretty significant outage times, 12 hours almost every Sunday. So we are really concerned about making sure the consumer understands when it will be available for enrollment,” says Heather Korbulic with the Silver State Health Insurance Exchange.
