Beware of scam affecting Washoe County residents

RENO, Nev. (KOLO) - The Washoe County Treasurer's Office wants to warn people of scam involving tax liens on property.

Washoe County says the scam involves an individual claiming to represent Washoe County.

The county tells us residents have been reporting that they are receiving messages via mail and phone claiming a lien has been placed on the their property and that a payment must be made to settle the debt.

The Treasurer’s Office does not accept payments over the phone.
