Veterans Guest House helps vets undergoing treatment

RENO, Nev. (KOLO) - December 19:

The Veterans Guest House provides temporary housing to our military veterans and their families when they're undergoing medical treatment in Northern Nevada.

This year alone, it's provided more than 5600 guest nights, and it's hoping to expand its reach with a new 12-thousand-square-foot building with 21 more beds.

The non-profit has raised most of the money for the construction, but Chief Executive Officer Noreen Leary says every dollar from the community helps.

"I just signed a thank-you letter to someone who sent us 7 dollars. There's a story behind that. We appreciate every dollar that comes through the door. We use it judiciously, We make sure we're using it. It stays right here in Northern Nevada, It goes nowhere."

The new building is expected to open in June 2018.

In addition to monetary donations, the house appreciates gift cards.
