UNR President Johnson named Distinguished Eagle Scout

RENO, Nev. (KOLO) - University of Nevada Reno President Marc Johnson is being awarded one of the highest honors by the Boy Scouts of America.

On Thursday, October 26, 2017, Johnson will receive the Distinguished Eagle Scout Award.

According to the Nevada Area Council of the Boy Scouts, the award was established in 1969 to acknowledge Eagle Scouts who have received "extraordinary national-level recognition, fame, or eminence within their field, and have a strong record of voluntary service to their community." Eagle Scouts must have earned their rank at least 25 years previously to be eligible for nomination.

Beryl Love, the former Executive Editor of the Reno Gazette Journal and current Executive Editor of USA Today Networks will give the Keynote Speech at the awards presentation. Love is himself an Eagle Scout.
