PASADENA, Calif. (KOLO)-- Sparks elementary school teacher Amy Camacho is in Pasadena to take part in the Rose Bowl Parade and to celebrate the organ donation that saved her life with the parents of the man who gave her the donation.

Camacho will ride on the Donate Life Rose Parade Float, the Gift of Time. She placed a rose on the float in tribute to Noah Orme of San Francisco, who died in April 2016 and donated organs and tissue.

Camacho needed kidneys due to childhood diabetes and Orme provided the donation that helped her. She spent about five years in the transplant list. Camacho has been a teacher for 17 years, the last four years at Van Gorder Elementary School as a fifth grade teacher.

After her transplant she became a donate life ambassador with Donor Network West to advocate for organ and tissue donation education.

People can register to become donors at the Department of Motor Vehicles or DonorNetworkWest.org.
