July 18, 2017: Virginia Street Survey

By  |

The RTC is working to improve safety for everyone on Virginia Street and to give the community transportation choices. The Virginia Street Bus RAPID Transit Extension Project will extend the RTC’s premiere RAPID service up to the UNR campus, eliminating a need for a transfer at RTC 4th Street Station. The project also involves installing wider sidewalks in the Midtown area and new bike lanes near the University campus.

RTC is looking for comments on some of the enhancements that this project will include, namely the lighting, landscaping and sidewalk treatments in Midtown. There are several options for what type of lighting might be installed, including contemporary and historical-style street lights. Additionally, RTC would like to know whether it should install benches and if so what style people would prefer.

This project will be creating some spaces where public art could be placed. It’s possible artwork could be incorporated into benches or other elements of the project. However, the primary goal of the project is to enhance safety for everyone and create a community that is accessible to everyone under the Americans with Disabilities Act.
