RENO, Nev. (KOLO) - The Reno community can give blood at United Blood Services this summer to save lives and enter to win a Harley-Davidson® Sportster® Custom 1200 courtesy of Chester’s Reno Harley-Davidson through the 2nd Annual Summer Ride to Save Lives campaign. Blood donors from May 21 through July 31, 2018 at United Blood Services donor centers in Reno, Sparks and Carson City, plus United Blood Services blood drives throughout Northern Nevada, are eligible to win.
”Beginning with Memorial Day, summer is typically the most challenging time of year to collect blood,” said Scott Edward, Donor Marketing and Communications Director with United Blood Services. “However, there are always hospital patients in our community that rely on lifesaving blood every day to survive traumatic injuries, emergency situations, recover from cancer treatments, endure childbirth complications and more.”
Traditionally, the summer is a very challenging time to collect blood due to many reasons, including but not limited to:
• High schools and colleges – the site of numerous blood drives during the school year – are on break.
• Higher rates of donor deferrals due to the effects of traveling.
• Regular blood donors are unavailable on vacations
The winner will be randomly selected during a giveaway event August 22 from a pool of 11 finalists. Those 11 finalists will be comprised of 10 finalists randomly selected from all drawing entries, plus one finalist randomly selected from blood drive coordinator entries. Blood drive coordinators are important to the lifesaving mission of United Blood Services. All coordinators who host blood drives from May 21 through July 31, 2018 can be entered to win.
The winner will also receive a helmet and a motorcycle training course.
