RENO, Nev. (KOLO) - December 15:

Through education and prevention, Awaken aims to end sex trafficking.

Awaken estimates more than 300 youth in Northern Nevada are being trafficked or are at high risk of being trafficked.

Last year it opened its drop-in center at 4th and Spokane Streets, a known sex trafficking area, to help victims of sexual abuse get on the path to recovery.

Jen Robinson, youth intervention director, says, "Get them outdoors, get them in nature and away from what they are used to and we really start to break down some of the trauma and build healthy relationships and take a step toward freedom."

There are several opportunities available to volunteer. The center needs help with daily tasks such as laundry, and whatever your background is, there is a need.
