RENO, Nev. (KOLO) - The Grand Sierra Resort stands out as one of Reno’s tallest buildings, but have you ever considered rappelling down the side of it for the sake of charity?
Supporters of Big Brothers Big Sisters of Northern Nevada (BBBSNN) have the chance to raise $1,000 for the organization and secure a coveted slot to rappel 27 stories from the roof of the well-known Reno hotel as part of the Over The Edge fundraiser on September 27. Not only will these fundraisers participate in a thrilling “bucket-list” experience, they will also support the life-changing mentoring programs provided by BBBSNN.
The first 76 “Edgers” who reach the $1,000 fundraising goal will earn their spot to go Over The Edge. No ropes experience is necessary, professional staff will be present to assist participants and provide technical expertise, training and equipment.
“Once you get over the initial nervousness and step over the edge of the building, you can really begin to take in the incredible view. Over The Edge staff did a wonderful job of making me feel safe and coaching me through the process,” said Beth Osborne, Program Director of BBBSNN and second-time Over The Edge participant. “Going Over The Edge was the most unique and thrilling experience I have ever had and I can’t wait to rappel again this year!”
In 2016, BBBSNN served 586 local, at-risk youth. The agency goal for 2017 is to serve 216 additional children. The cost of supporting one mentoring relationship is $1,000 per year. By raising $1,000 to go Over The Edge, participants will be giving local children a caring and trusted friend who will change their lives.
