Organized by Department of Art faculty member, Brett Van Hoesen, Ph.D., Time Zone and Equinox includes video work by the artist Mwangi Hutter. Working with video, sound, photography, installation, sculpture, painting and performance, Mwangi Hutter reflect on changing societal realities, creating an aesthetics of self-knowledge and interrelationship. This exhibition is presented by the University of Nevada, Reno School of the Arts.
Note: Hours of operation are Sundays and Mondays closed, Tuesdays and Wednesdays noon-4 p.m., Thursdays and Fridays noon-8 p.m., Saturdays 10 a.m.-8 p.m.

An internationally recognized artists from Baku, Azerbaijan, Faig Ahmed represented Azerbaijan in the 2007 Venice Biennale and presented by the University of Nevada, Reno School of the Arts. Well-known for his conceptual works that use the traditional decorative craft and the visual language of carpets into contemporary sculptural works of art, Ahmed has lent his work for be exhibited alongside historical examples for traditional central and West Asian weaving from the University Galleries collection.

Turning Points - A Night in the Musical Theatre

Truly great musicals all have one thing in common: characters who are forced to change. Join us for an evening of song in our black box theatre as the characters from some of the most beloved contemporary musicals come to terms with their realities. Modern life is reflected on stage as we explore the light-hearted discovery of love and hope, as well as the struggle of pain and loss. Some material might not be appropriate for all ages.

Tickets: $15; $12 for seniors; $10 for students age 2-18 and University faculty/staff; $5 for University students with ID (limited quantity)

Talk: An Old Flame: The Real Story

The Museum’s 1917 American LaFrance fire truck – witness its unlikely journey from heroic battles to a stint as the main ride for a jazz band before taking up residence in the National Automobile Museum.

Historian and author Steve Frady is the retired police and fire public information officer for the City of Reno. He is a former editor of the Nevada Appeal and served 10 years as chief of the Virginia City Fire Department where he was involved in researching and restoring historic Virginia City and Gold Hill firefighting equipment. He is a founding member and current vice chairman of the Comstock Fire Museum that opened in 1979, and is the author of Red Shirts and Leather Helmets, A History of the Fire Departments of Virginia City and Gold Hill, published by the University of Nevada, Reno; and Where Duty Calls -- a history of Warren Engine Co. No. 1 and the Carson City Fire Department.

The Wilbur D. May Museum is unmasking its latest interactive exhibition: Hall of Heroes. This exciting exhibition celebrates and explores the history and science behind some of pop culture’s favorite superheroes.
