Idlewild Park, Reno, NV
Science Camp comes to Idlewild Park

Reno, NV - Truckee Meadows Parks Foundation is transforming Reno’s Idlewild Park into a learning laboratory for 3th -7th graders this Spring Break. Children will explore herpetology and alternative energies in a camp designed to use local parks for outdoor adventures.

March 26th-30th: Reptile Adventures
Discover the world of herpetology through experiments and activities. Campers will explore various reptiles, amphibians and their habitats including identification of live desert species during a tour of the UNR Natural History Museum.

April 2nd-6th: Today’s Energy, Tomorrow’s Future
Investigate alternative energies and engineer your own prototype. Campers will research the Earth’s power including a tour of the Ormat geothermal plant.

Location: Camp will take place in Idlewild Park at the Truckee Meadows Parks Foundation office (50 Cowan Drive).

Hours: Camp hours will be 9:00 a.m. - 4:00 p.m with extended hours everyday from 8:00 - 5:30 p.m for an additional fee. The price of camp is $125 per week, per camper before March 4th and $150 per week, per camper after.

Organized by Department of Art faculty member, Brett Van Hoesen, Ph.D., Time Zone and Equinox includes video work by the artist Mwangi Hutter. Working with video, sound, photography, installation, sculpture, painting and performance, Mwangi Hutter reflect on changing societal realities, creating an aesthetics of self-knowledge and interrelationship. This exhibition is presented by the University of Nevada, Reno School of the Arts.

An internationally recognized artists from Baku, Azerbaijan, Faig Ahmed represented Azerbaijan in the 2007 Venice Biennale and presented by the University of Nevada, Reno School of the Arts. Well-known for his conceptual works that use the traditional decorative craft and the visual language of carpets into contemporary sculptural works of art, Ahmed has lent his work for be exhibited alongside historical examples for traditional central and West Asian weaving from the University Galleries collection.

The Wilbur D. May Museum is unmasking its latest interactive exhibition: Hall of Heroes. This exciting exhibition celebrates and explores the history and science behind some of pop culture’s favorite superheroes. See movie props, costumes, and memorabilia, and then put your own skills to the test to discover your superpowers. Hall of Heroes features dozens of interactive stations designed to test powers of the body, elements, mind, and more. Visitors of all ages will love this exhibit that combines science and science –fiction. Hall of Heroes also includes:
