“Indian Cooking” class by TMCC open to public

Truckee Meadows Community College (TMCC) is offering class on “Indian Cooking” in Reno, which is open to the public.

All are welcome to sign-up for “Indian Cooking” (FB124C/24972), four sessions class taught from 06-00 to 07-30 pm on Tuesdays, starting February 20, at Damonte Ranch High School, Room 117 (CA), 10500 Rio Wrangler Parkway, Reno 89521. Tuition is $79 plus a $20 materials cost.

Besides other things, this class will also teach Chicken Tikka Masala, reportedly one of the United Kingdom's most popular dishes; and Halwa, a favorite dessert in India and other countries.

Indian cuisine reflects about 5,000-years history of various groups & cultures interacting within the subcontinent. Staple foods eaten today in India are said to have been cultivated there since around 6,200 BCE.

Nevada Wind Ensemble and Nevada Concert Winds

The Nevada Wind Ensemble and Nevada Concert Winds will perform their second concert of the semester. Doors will open at 7 p.m., with the concert beginning at 7:30 p.m. with the Nevada Concert Winds. There will be a brief intermission between ensembles to reset the stage.

Note: The nearest parking option is the Brian Whalen Parking Garage adjacent to the building. In the event the garage is full, the West Stadium Parking Complex is also an option. Plan to arrive early, as there are often multiple events on campus that use up the limited parking.

Tickets: $5; free for University students with ID

Black Rock Press - Parley Project: Artist Book Release Event and Outgoing Lecture by the BRP Redfield Fellow

This event is a celebration of Lauren Cardenas, the Black Rock Press Redfield Fellow, and the Parley Project. The Parley Project is a collaboration between the Black Rock Press and another person or organization on the University of Nevada, Reno campus and directed by the fellow. Cardenas will give an outgoing talk to discuss her experience at the BRP over the past two years and to unveil the second Parley Project publication. For this project, Cardenas reached out to Professor Daniel Enrique Pérez in the Department of World Languages and Literatures and the director of the Core Humanities program at the University, where he also teaches in the Gender, Race, and Identity program. Under the direction of Cardenas, students, faculty, and staff came together to facilitate her vision for this work of visual and literary art. The edition also includes a vinyl recording. Come look, listen, read, and celebrate.

L-Cubed is a free, weekly BYO lunch jazz and classical music series featuring music performances by students and faculty in a laid-back lunchtime setting. These performances are open to the public; all are welcome. As part of the School of the Arts and the College of Liberal Arts, L-Cubed is designed to showcase the music of students and faculty at the Department of Music at University of Nevada, Reno, and to expose the academic community and the general public to the beauty and power of great music. The Series is a way to better acquaint everyone with the vibrant creativity taking place on campus.

This exciting exhibition celebrates and explores the history and science behind some of pop culture’s favorite superheroes. Hall of Heroes features dozens of interactive stations designed to test powers of the body, elements, mind, and more.
