RENO, NV - Sharon Lemon's decade-long battle with diabetes took a turn for the worse a couple years ago. She had renal failure and lost her job helping at risk youth in Reno. The daily pain sharon has experienced since then has been almost too much to bear.
"I just can't live like this anymore," says Lemons.
Sharon's survival depends on help from one of the best hospitals in the country, the Mayo Clinic in Arizona. she couldn't afford the five thousand dollars needed for the treatment and travel, but her partner Sandy wouldn't let her give up hope.
"I told her, if you promise to go to the Mayo Clinic, I will do whatever it take to get you there," says Sandy Poirier.
Sandy has enlisted the community to help with the sharon's medical expenses. The first major step was taken at a Spaghetti Feed and Raffle at Lord of Mercy Lutheran Church. With items donated from local businesses. Sandy considers it a good start, but she says she won't stop fighting for sharon.
"I can't imagine life without here, especially over something like this," says Poirier.
Since Sandy and Sharon are leaving for the Mayo Clinic in less than a month, they don't have any other big events like this planned just yet, but they wouldn't rule out doing one in the future.
You can donate to the Sharon Lemons Medical Fund at the Plumb Lane Bank of America.
