Squaw Valley and Fireside Pizza partnered with SkiDUCK, a local non-profit, to launch the organization’s fifth season of introducing financially disadvantaged and at-risk youth to the world of skiing and snowboarding.
Over 125 children and teens from Reno, North Lake Tahoe, and as far away as Stockton, CA were treated to a free day on the slopes (including lift tickets, rentals and lessons from Squaw Valley) and a free pizza and pasta lunch, compliments of Fireside Pizza, located at the Village at Squaw Valley. Fireside Pizza owner Ray Villaman and General Manager Danny Scott also presented SkiDUCK with an $8,500 donation, the result of a year-long effort by Fireside Pizza to raise awareness and proceeds to help support their mission of serving Northern California and Nevada children in-need.
"Fireside is always excited to be involved with local community organizations” said Scott. “We’re passionate about supporting those around us; especially kids! It’s truly rewarding to give back and see how much fun all the kids have when they are skiing and riding at Squaw. Our contribution is one slice of the whole SkiDUCK pie."
“We’re so thankful to have the support of Fireside Pizza, the ski resort and the entire Squaw Valley community to help share our passion for skiing, snowboarding and the mountains with kids who otherwise may never have the opportunity to learn to ski or ride” said SkiDUCK founder Clint Lunde. “Squaw Valley has been our home base and largest supporter since our first season, and Fireside Pizza has been providing free lunches for hundreds and hundreds of our kids for several years. We’re blessed to have such an amazing community of support in Lake Tahoe!”
With over 1,000 kids participating in over 60 events and 2,000 days on the slopes this season, SkiDUCK will have its wings full. “But that’s the way we like it” said Lunde, “The more kids out on the slopes experiencing the sheer joy of skiing and riding, the better.” If you’re interested in learning more about SkiDUCK, donating or volunteering just visit www.SkiDUCK.org or call 775-287-6464.
