Tuesday, December 17th, 2013. 6pm-9pm
California Building at Idlewild Park
Join Friends of Nevada Wilderness as we host our seventh annual Wilderness Wingding volunteer appreciation party and awards ceremony to personally thank each of our volunteers and agency partners. The evening will also mark the kickoff celebration for our 30th anniversary – that’s 30 years of keeping Nevada’s 68 Wilderness Areas, 64 Wilderness Study Areas, three National Conservation Areas, and nine Wildlife Refuges wild. The evening will provide live music from local artists, hors d’oeuvres, and a silent auction and raffle. This event is free and open to the public.
Here are just a few of the highlights our volunteers have accomplished in 2013:
• Donated over 7,500 hours of in-kind labor in 72 individual restoration projects across the state.
• Constructed and improved over 21 miles of trails for hikers, photographers, and outdoor enthusiasts to reach our state’s remote peaks and valleys;
• Planted over 3,500 native plants in wilderness areas affected by wildfires, creating habitat for wildlife like mule deer and providing great hunting landscape for western sportsmen;
• Removed over 7,000 invasive weeds in the Mount Rose Wilderness, Reno’s wild backyard and our community’s outdoor classroom; WHEN: Tuesday, December 17th, 2013. 6pm-9pm, awards ceremony from 7-8pm.
