"Most of us have food, but some of these kids don't. They're in transition, they're living in their cars," says Linda Shaw.
Linda Shaw wanted to find a way to help kids in need during Christmas Break, so three years ago, she started giving away backpacks filled with food like Pop Tarts and Crackers to area schools. It was such a success, that she passed along the idea to Rotary Club President Steve Mestre.
"She had the relationships with the schools with the most need and from there we were able to take what she was able to do with about 50 and move that up to several hundred," says Steve Mestre.
Thanks to the Rotary Club and discounts from Costco, 300 kids won't go hungry this Christmas. Linda says knowing this makes all the hard work worth it.
"When you deliver them and you see all of the kids that are sitting around in the multi-purpose room and they're waiting to get them, it's very heart warming and very powerful," says Linda Shaw.
