Reno Lithia Motors Presents the Down Syndrome Network of Northern Nevada 6th Annual Buddy Walk®
Encourages Participants to Take Strides Towards Acceptance and Inclusion for People with Down Syndrome
Reno, NV – The 6th Annual Buddy Walk® will take place Saturday, October 1st at the Sparks Marina. More than 1,000 people are expected to attend the event, which raises awareness and funds for programs that benefit people with Down syndrome and their families.
This year in particular marks the return of some great talent who support the Buddy Walk by appearing in the PSA, including Nancy O’Dell, Chris Burke, Albert Pujols and Meredith Vieira, among others.
“I am honored to lend my voice to this important PSA as both a journalist and a mom. Having lived with challenges in my own family, I have learned that the greatest disability of all is misunderstanding and ignorance,” said Today Co-Anchor Meredith Vieira.
The Buddy Walk Program welcomes participants of all ages and abilities. The goals of the program are to promote acceptance and inclusion of people with Down syndrome and to positively influence local and national policy and practice. Last year alone, Buddy Walk events raised more than $10 million to benefit national education and advocacy initiatives, as well as local programs and services. All funds raised through the Buddy Walk support both local and national programs.
The Northern Nevada Buddy Walk will feature the a bounce house, tumble bus & balloon maker for children, Sparks Fire Department, team photos, silent auction and a Barbeque lunch. Registration begins at 8:00 am, team contests begin at 9:00 am, and the walk begins at 11:00 am, with lunch and fun to follow!
The Northern Nevada Buddy Walk is one of more than 275 Buddy Walks taking place in cities across the country and in select international locations this fall to celebrate Down Syndrome Awareness Month in October.
