RENO, NV -- Thanks to your help, Raley's donated more than 2.2 million pounds of food during its Food For Families 2013 campaign.
KOLO 8 News Now teamed up with the supermarket chain to raise food donations for needy families.
The 2,218,971 pounds of food beat totals from the previous three years and set a new bar for 2014.
“We’re touched by the generosity of so many hearts, near and far,” said Jennie Teel-Wolter, Raley’s community relations manager. “Thank you for helping put dinner on tables that need it most, especially during the holidays.”
The 2013 Food For Families campaign was one of Raley’s most successful campaigns in its 27 year history. It is key for helping local food banks meet the increased demand for food among thousands of hungry families and individuals throughout Northern California and Nevada.
Each holiday bag provided 18 meals and included more fresh groceries than ever before, like carrots, green salad and potatoes in addition to pantry staples like whole wheat pasta and tuna. Seventy-two regional food banks distribute the 89,308 holiday bags purchased to benefit local families.
