To prepare for the flu season, the CDC recommends a yearly flu vaccine for everyone 6 months of age and older as the first and most important step in protecting against the influenza virus.
RENO, NV - In an effort to keep the northern Nevada community healthy this flu season, healthcare experts from Renown Health will provide flu and pneumonia shots to the public at a variety of locations throughout the Truckee Meadows through December.
Renown has scheduled more than 25 flu and pneumonia shot events. Flu shots are offered at no cost to Medicare beneficiaries (Part B), members of Senior Care Plus or Hometown Health fully insured HMO and PPO plans. All other persons can receive flu shots for $28 and pneumonia shots for $75 (for those individuals meeting Centers for Disease Control and Prevention (CDC) requirements).
“The CDC says early fall is the ideal time for a flu shot,” said Lori Mitchell, manager, Hometown Health Wellness Services. “Our goal is to make it convenient and easy for community members to get a flu shot. That’s why we’re offering shots at a variety of times and in numerous locations throughout the area.”
The flu season usually arrives in mid-January, but it can begin as early as October and continue through May. To prepare for the flu season, the CDC recommends a yearly flu vaccine for everyone 6 months of age and older as the first and most important step in protecting against the influenza virus. Other preventive steps include washing your hands to reduce the spread of germs and staying at home when you are sick.
