Nevada Day Festivities Galore!

Carson City, Nevada – This year Nevada celebrates its 147th birthday, and there is a vast array of fun, free, family activities going on all weekend long in our state capitol, Carson City!

This year’s theme is “Nevada’s Great Outdoors” and our co-Grand Marshalls this year are Chris Healy from the Nevada Dept. of Wildlife and Smokey Bear from the US Division of Forestry. Saturday, Oct. 29th:

-Pancake breakfast at The Governor’s Mansion (7AM to 9:30AM), Adults $6, Kids under 10, $3. Proceeds to benefit the Carson City High School

-ReMax Hot Air Balloon Launch (8AM), FREE! THIS IS AMAZING TO SEE! This year there are 22 hot air balloons that will take to the skies over Carson City as they leave in mass ascension right on S. Carson St. from 10th St. to Stewart St. (near the Carson Mall) in this annual Nevada Day tradition! Crews fire up their balloons at 7AM for the largest balloon launch in the event’s history!

-This year’s launch features the “Sushi” Flying Fish balloon, which has a tail that is 36 ft. tall and very kissable lips that are over 13 feet wide. “Sushi” has been invited to the Albuquerque Balloon Fiesta every year since she was new and now she’s in Carson City!

-73rd Annual “Nevada Day Parade” (10AM), FREE! Hundreds of entries from across the state descend onto S. Carson St. as the annual statehood parade rolls from William St. (the intersection of Hwy 50 and Carson St.) to Stewart St. (near the Carson Mall)

Notable entrants in the parade include: Governor Brian Sandoval, Senator Dean Heller, Attorney General Catherine Cortez-Masto, Miss Nevada Alana Lee, Congressman Mark Amodei, Hot August Nights, The Reno Aces, and so much more!o A dozen marching bands from Reno to Ely will march down S. Carson St. Tailgaters may line up as early as 6AM to get a good viewing spot along the parade route.

-Annual Nevada Day Beard Contest (1PM – right after the parade) FREE! Nearly 70 entrants from across the state compete for trophies and bragging rights as bearded gents compete for longest, darkest, whitest, scruffiest, neatest beards along with many other categories. Virginia City residents boast as having the most winners year after year. Event takes place right after the parade in the shaded plaza in front of the Nevada State Legislative Building Complex on S. Carson St.·

-38th Annual World Championship Single Jack Drilling Competition (11AM), FREE! Entrants from across the state compete for a $2000 prize as they recreate the mining techniques of the early Comstock Days of Nevada, drilling holes in solid granite and mucking in timed heats.o Takes place in the Carson Nugget west parking lot at S. Carson St. & Robinson St.

-30TH Annual Chili Feed (12 to 2PM), FREE! Hosted by Lt. Gov. Brian Krolicki and held upstairs in the banquet hall of the Carson Nugget Casino.

-Pinewood Derby (1PM – after the parade), FREE!o Free registration is at 11AMo Event takes place at the Carson Mall right after the parade. Kids compete in different age groups with their own carved Pinewood cars on a track
