RENO, NV - With summer and rising temperatures here, we're asking you to become part of the annual KOLO 8 Fan Club.
We have once again partnered with Washoe Senior Services to help local seniors in need stay cool this summer.
Seniors ages 60 and older who do not have air conditioning or are in need of fans to help cool their homes are encouraged to contact Washoe County Senior Services at (775) 328-2575 or stop by the Senior Center at 1155 E. 9th Street, Building E, to learn more about how they can participate in the 2015 Fan Drive for Seniors.
WCSS staffers are available to answer questions and assist seniors.
Fans can be dropped off or picked up between 9AM and 4PM Monday through Friday. Only donations of new fans still in boxes will be accepted. To qualify for a fan, recipients must be 60 years of age or older. Seniors without air conditioning and those who have not previously participated in the program are a priority.
Another option regarding weatherization is Community Services Agency, a non-profit organization that has been servicing Washoe County for 50 years. One of its programs is the Weatherization Assistance Program (WAP). This program allows health and safety and energy-efficient measures to low-income families in Washoe County at no cost, if they are income-qualified. That's through local, state, and government grants. WAP is a Fiscal Year program, so as of July 1, 2015, there is a fresh set of funds to service our community and provide help to those in need.
