RENO, NV - A white female described as in her mid-30s with medium-length blond hair has been witnessed knocking on doors in the Double Diamond area Thursday, saying she is representing a local pharmacy and asking for unused, unwanted prescription drugs. This is not a legitimate activity.

Join Together Northern Nevada Executive Director Kevin Quint says, "The person approaching community members is misrepresenting local pharmacies asking residents for unused prescription drugs and is not in any way related to the Prescription Drug Round Up and DEA Take Back event that will be held later this month."

A legitimate Prescription Drug Round Up will be held at several retail locations on Saturday, October 29 from 10 a.m. - 2 p.m. Community members can drop off unused, unwanted and expired prescription drugs at several retail locations throughout the community.

The Round Up was created to remove old medications from homes to eliminate the potential for abuse or dependence by those who have easy access to medicine cabinets such as teenagers and young children. The majority of teens say prescription drugs are easier to get
than illegal drugs, and one in five teens has used a prescription drug to get high.

Area residents can visit the following sites on October 29 from 10 a.m. - 2 p.m.

Hungry Valley Community Center - 9055 Eagle Canyon Drive
SaveMart - 565 East Prater Way
SaveMart - 9750 Pyramid Highway

Raleys - 18144 Wedge Parkway
Scolari's - 8165 S. Virginia St. (the pink Scolari's)
Walmart - 2425 E. 2nd Street (across from Grand Sierra Resort)

The event is being sponsored by Join Together Northern Nevada, The Reno Police Department, Federal Bureau of Investigation, U.S. Drug Enforcement Administration, Scolari’s Food & Drug Company, Medical Reserve Corps, Sparks Police Department, Washoe County
Sheriff’s Office, Washoe County School District, Truckee Meadows Water Authority, Retail Association of Nevada, SaveMart, Walmart and Waste Management.
